I was tasked as one of two lead artist to build & ship a fleet of new character designs for Magic Leap’s Social app ‘Avatar Chat’. It was part of my responsibility to explore how to expand many looks and profiles based off of one universal face and body geometry. The showcase consists of a versatile range of gender, age and ethnographically diverse profiles.

One of my favorite tasks was styling an inclusive range of looks. I deep dove into personas, gender, androgynous, age-based and enterprise profiles as well as functionality v.s. stylistic freedom of expression. There is so much nuance in what makes someone authentically themselves. The one takeaway that I’d keep seeing was how we humans as a whole have much more in common than any face value differences. This avatar project spotlights the essential need for designing for equity.
